The Pocono Raceway Solar Project marks an important milestone for enXco, Pocono Raceway, and NASCAR. As the first solar project for enXco in Pennsylvania, it reflects the NASCAR industry’s collaborative approach to preserving the environment and highlights Pocono Raceway’s significant contribution as the first major U.S. sports venue to utilize 100% renewable energy. In addition, the project is recognized as the largest renewable energy stadium project in the world.
The 3 MW ground-mount system is comprised of 40,000 thin-film solar panels and sits adjacent to the racetrack on 25-acres of land. It will produce 72 million kilowatt hours of energy over the next 20 years–enough to provide for the electricity needs of 1,000 homes in addition to the racetrack.
